Statement: Suzanne Legault, Information Commissioner of Canada, will not seek reappointment

Gatineau, Quebec, April 6, 2017 - Suzanne Legault, Information Commissioner of Canada, announced today that she will not seek reappointment when her current term expires on June 28, 2017.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve Canadians and the Parliament of Canada, as Canada’s Information Commissioner, over the past eight years. I am very proud of what my office has accomplished and of the work that my staff has done to ensure that Canadians have the right to access government information,” said Commissioner Legault.

Commissioner Legault added that she has advised the Government of Canada that she is prepared to serve in her position until her successor is in place, if needed.
