Information Commissioner releases 2019–20 annual report
Gatineau, September 29, 2020—Information Commissioner of Canada Caroline Maynard’s 2019–20 annual report was tabled in Parliament today.
The report highlights the excellent results the Office of the Information Commissioner (OIC) achieved during a challenging year. The OIC registered over 6,000 new complaints in 2019–20–more than double the amount received in the previous year–while implementing the latest amendments to the Access to Information Act. The report also includes summaries of some of the more than 5,000 investigations the OIC concluded, in areas such as classified records, solicitor-client privilege, and more.
“The innovative approaches my team took to complete a record number of files, publish my decisions and issue guidance were a big factor in last year’s successes,” Commissioner Maynard said. “This spirit of innovation also served the organization well in the early days of the pandemic, when my team explored and implemented technological solutions that enabled the OIC to work at full capacity.”
The report is available on the OIC website.
